Accounting & Finance Associate

We are looking for a talented highly organized self-starter with aligned values to join our growing team as an Accounting & Finance Associate. This is a hands-on role, and the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the firm’s Head of Finance across all financial and accounting functions.

Primary Responsibilities

Accounting & Bookkeeping:·      

  • Make accounting and bookkeeping entries into the firm’s accounting system. (Microsoft Great Plains)
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly accounting system reports for the firm’s US based parent.
  • Perform accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash disbursements and bank reconciliation functions.
  • Assist in the preparation of the firm’s HST and tax returns for review.

Internal Controls:

  • Supporting the Head of Finance in monitoring all internal controls with respect to accounting and financial policies & procedures.
  • Maintain adherence to Sarbanes Oxley controls at the firm.
  • Keep company accounting records organized and readily available for examination as needed.
  • Maintain orderly electronic folders for the storage of financial contracts, financing agreements, insurance policies and other documents.
  • Continually look for ways to automate processes and make accounting operations more efficient.

Financial Planning & Reporting:·      

  • Assist the Head of Finance with the preparation of financial statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, budgets, budget-to-actuals and financial projections.
  • Assist with the provision of on-time reporting to regulatory bodies including the CRA and OSC as required including supporting the annual audit with the firm’s external auditor.

Investment Funds Support

  • Generate NAV files and reconciliation reports of the firm’s pooled investment vehicles (Access Funds.
  • Calculate and review investor allocations.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies and reconcile differences (including accounting entries, investment positions and cash) with the funds’ administrator.
  • Provide quarterly client summaries to operations team.
  • Assist the Funds’ outside auditors and administrators with annual reviews and sampling as required.

Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a financial services environment, preferably a smaller firm (i.e., hedge fund manager or other financial services firm) where you gained a wide exposure to the accounting & finance environment.
  • Completion of Accounting designation (CPA, CMA etc.)
  • Accounting systems experience (QB, Great Plains, Sage etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in English.
  • Strong Microsoft Office technical knowledge, particularly Excel.
